Concrete repair technical guidance.
What this tool does
Concrete repair technical guidance. This guide describes the main workflow, key information and stated limits to review when using the tool.
Move from symptoms to an intervention plan
- Record visible condition, exposure and concrete quality on the Diagnostics tabs. Treat cracks, rust staining and spalling as observations, not a complete diagnosis.
- Select suitable tests: cover and carbonation measurements, half-cell potential, resistivity, corrosion-rate testing, chloride profiling or non-destructive imaging.
- Compare test results and use the diagnostic scenarios and decision guides to identify likely deterioration mechanisms and remaining information needs.
- Use CarbonationCalc and the related calculators to explore carbonation depth, chloride ingress, corrosion rate and steel section loss from measured inputs.
- Open Repair to compare protective treatment, local repair, cathodic protection, overlays or replacement, then set a monitoring plan for the chosen intervention.
Tools in one place
- Interactive explanations of common inspection and corrosion tests, with guidance on what each test can and cannot establish.
- Calculators for carbonation prediction, chloride diffusion, corrosion current to steel-loss rate, and remaining bar section.
- Exposure-class summaries and diagnostic scenarios connect likely deterioration mechanisms to proportionate follow-up testing.
- Repair guidance covers method selection, materials, durability trade-offs and post-repair monitoring; the Corrosion Tests area includes a short learning guide and quiz.
Use the calculators as decision support
Predictions rely on simplified diffusion and corrosion relationships and on the quality of measured inputs. Thresholds, exposure classes and test interpretations are guidance rather than a project-specific diagnosis or repair specification. Combine methods, verify current standards and obtain specialist assessment where structural capacity or safety may be affected.
